That one voice belongs to, Jovany Javier Barreto. Above is his NOLA Audition for American Idol covering Luis Miguel's Contigo En La Distancia ♪
"Jovany Barreto builds ships in Louisiana, and his Cuban American family is so big that they took up the entire holding room at New Orleans auditions. He's always loved Jennifer, but when she married his idol (Marc Anthony), that just sealed the deal. His shipyard bros bet him $100 to take his shirt off for Jennifer. Jovany auditioned with a Spanish song by Luis Miguel. When he was finished, Randy asked Jennifer if that was good, but you don't need to know Spanish to know that sounded really nice. Steven thought Jovany's "melodic sensibility was really delicious," and the judges give Jovany a ticket to Hollywood. When Jovany revealed that he now must remove his shirt, Randy and Steven got in on the fun. In the spirit of N'Awlins, they lifted up their shirts for Jennifer, but she had no beads to toss at them. Evidently, building ships does a number on a man's physique." Via The Big Easy Was Easy on the Ears ... by The AI Insider.

His family has played an extremely influential and supportive role in his life positioning him into where he is today.Jovany's powerful yet soothing voice was discovered by his mother at the age of 6 in none other than their bathroom shower. She was so amazed when she heard him singing that she felt she needed to share it with everyone immediately. She contacted their entire family and asked that they pass by their house. Jovany, unaware of what she had done, was shocked to see all of his family that evening gathered around waiting for him to embrace them with his newly revealed talent. Shyness was not in his list of traits, so he went along and entertained this idea, not knowing that this would be the first step towards his musical journey.
He soon began to sing as a form of hobby and would share his gift with not only his family but with others. Attempting to woo the girls, Jovany sang at school dances and even recess. He continued to receive positive feedback from everyone which helpedboost his confidence. This passion led him to joining a choir class his sophomore year in highschool and taking up several music appreciation classes in college. He also joined part of a traveling ensemble for a short period of time in college.
Throughout the years, Jovany has developed a stronger love for music and enjoys many genres from New/Soul to Alternative/Indie Rock and especially Latin music. His Cuban influence has allowed him to have an appreciation for Caribbean sounds such as Salsa, Merengue and Bachata.
When asked what inspires him, Jovany said, "It's always a good feeling to know that you are good at something, but what feels even better is to know that your particular something can make others feel just as good."

Harvey man enjoys ride on American Idol roller coaster
When 23-year-old Jovany Barreto auditioned for American Idol he
brought his voice and heritage with him. The first in his family born
on American soil, he, and his brother and sister, were taught to
appreciate where they came from.
He belted out a song by Latin crooner Luis Miguel.
“My mother and my father were both born in Cuba. They met here, and here I am,” Barreto said. “The great thing about it was when my grandparents came so long ago, they always said there’s something here.”
But Barreto, who lives in Harvey, never thought his voice would unlock those dreams.
Barreto’s father, a longtime bridge painter, helped young Barreto hone his baseball skills.
“It was engrained in my mind I loved it. In the Caribbean, baseball is prominent it's a way of life.”
But his passion for singing lingered.
“I used to sing at the little parties and in the dugout in the middle of innings.”
So when American Idol came to town, he counted on his golden voice to hit a home run.
“My mom was like you better go… It's the chance of a lifetime. So, here I am talking to you.”
The process in New Orleans started with tens of thousands and was whittled down to the best and the brightest.
“It's always nerve racking. You're anxious and the more you wait, the more nerves build up. Before I got a chance to go in front of them, and I was backstage, I was like ‘you know what I gotta give ‘em, everything i got.’ This is an opportunity you don't come by every day and so I went out there and just executed.”
The judges agreed. They cited Barreto’s powerful voice. Jennifer Lopez called his voice “very delicious.” The feedback blew him away.
“My voice is delicious. Oh my God, I was cracking up.”
But that wasn’t the only levity the audition would provide. He had a shipyard bet to settle.
“The guys were like ‘Jennifer Lopez, she's going to be on the show. You got to take your shirt off for her.’ So they bet me.”
He followed through by showing off his abs, then showing up judges Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler. But the biggest part of the evening was when he showed his family what he had earned – a golden ticket to Hollywood.
And despite his world class abs, Barreto wants one thing to be clear.
“I don't want to be one of those guys that's a one trick pony. I want to make sure everyone knows I'm for real. I'm trying to represent the metro area as a serious contestant.”
American Idol prevents Barreto from disclosing whether or not he is a finalist in the show, but you can find out by watching Wednesday and Thursday nights on FOX 8.
