You all remember American Idol’s Jovany Barreto, right? One of this season’s more colorful Latino contenders, Jovany got voted off early in the competition. And in case you’re wondering what he’s been up to since then, TMZ has just revealed that the Cuban-American crooner is now teaming up with Jon Secada!

Famous for his early 90’s ballads and pop hits, Jon Secada definitely knows a thing or two about music. He’s won multiple Grammys, sold millions of albums, and been a longtime judge on Latin American Idol. Now it appears he’s taken a shine to Jovany, not surprisingly because Barreto belted out Secada’s “Angel” during his audition.
"I'm so honored and grateful that Jon would offer me his guidance," Jovany posted on his Twitter page.
And these aren’t just a few notes and pointers. Jon actually encouraged Jovany to leave his hometown of New Orleans and move to Miami for some one-on-one mentoring. Per his tweet account, Barreto explained that he’s learning quite a bit from Jon and may record with him soon.
And seeing how Jovany still has a huge base of young fans, a partnership may help Secada reach a new audience too. When commenting on Barreto’s talents, Jon said,
"I think he's a very talented singer and can be a great asset to the music industry singing both in English and Spanish."

Find Out What Jon Secada is Doing with 'American Idol'

American Idol castoff Jovany Barreto, the 23-year-old Cuban contestant who wowed Jennifer Lopez with a cover of Luis Miguel’s ballad, "Contigo en la Distancia,” (and his six-pack abs) recently took to his Twitter page to announce that he's living in Miami, and that one of his heroes, the legendary Jon Secadahas agreed to be his mentor and help him develop musically.
"I'm so honored and grateful that Jon would offer me his guidance," wrote Jovany. The former shipyard worker also tweeted about how much he's enjoying life in Miami. "Man I'm right on the beach and I'm getting to kno[w] ... life we never knew existed, Haha I'm still a lil shocked."

According to 'American Idol' castoff Jovany Barreto's Twitter page, the shipyard worker from New Orleans has taken up residence in Miami, where one of his heroes, Jon Secada, has decided to mentor the aspiring singer and nurture his ambitions to become a star.

"I'm so honored and grateful that Jon would offer me his guidance," the Cuban-American said.

The new Miami resident is already taking in the glow of the Magic City and is obviously a bit overwhelmed, tweeting "Man I'm right on the beach and I'm getting to kno[w] ... life we never knew existed, Haha I'm Still alil shocked."

The 23 year old was a top 24 wild card contender but was eliminated. Ironically he didn't make it past the judges after singing an emotional 'One I Love' by his new mentor, Secada, leaving judge J. Lo saying "you did all you could do."

Online gossip mag TMZ reports that Barreto reached out to the singer for some constructive criticism, likely never banking on the fact he might actually get to record with one of his heroes.

"I think he's a very talented singer and can be an asset to the music industry, singing in both Spanish and English," Secada said.
